Should same-sex marriage be legalized across the nation? Legalizing it doesn’t seem infringe on anybody’s liberties while prohibiting it strips many of a very important freedom.     – Question submitted by Alex Boyles in Chico, CA

Answer:

Yes.  The current practice of getting government involved in marriages is the main problem, as well as the welfare provisions or entitlements that often come from being married.  This amounts to a form of wealth redistribution which, then, offends those who oppose gay marriages–why should they be forced to fund something they object to.  If they weren’t required to contribute to those benefits, I believe the libertarian approach would not upset most people.
